Talk about training

What could this
look like for you?

From launching something new to improving how things work, I help you turn your priorities into clear, manageable steps.

Churches

A community initiative, improvements to your premises, or a new activity involving staff and volunteers. I can help shape the plan, organise responsibilities and coordinate the people, budget and timetable—keeping everyone focused on what you want to achieve.

Charities

A new service, a growing team, or administrative processes that take up too much time. I can help establish how the work will run, clarify responsibilities and identify practical improvements that make better use of your people and resources.

Small businesses

A new system, a service launch, or a way of working that needs to improve as your business grows. I can help plan and coordinate the change, work with your team and suppliers, and keep progress moving alongside the day-to-day demands of running your business.

Tell me what you’re working towards, and we can work out what support would make a difference.

02 / The approach

Less overwhelm.
More forward.

Good project management should make life easier. The approach is straightforward: understand what matters, create a workable plan and follow through.

Start with a conversation
  1. 01

    Listen first.

Understand your purpose, your people and the pressures you’re working with. Agree what a good outcome looks like.

  2. 02

    Make it workable.

Break the work into manageable steps. Make the responsibilities, decisions and timescales clear.

  3. 03

    Move forward, together.

Keep people informed, deal with the obstacles and adapt the plan when it needs to change.

03 / About Mark

Why I started
Grounded Purposeful Projects

I’m Mark Payne, an experienced project manager and the founder of Grounded Purposeful Projects. My Christian faith shapes my belief that how we treat people matters just as much as what we achieve.

I started the consultancy after recognising that many churches, charities and small businesses have worthwhile ideas, but lack the resources to commit to long-term project support. I wanted to offer practical help that fits what they need, when they need it.

For me, the journey matters as much as the outcome. Ambiguity can create confusion, cause delays and stop good projects from happening. I help bring clarity, make the work manageable and give people a shared direction.

Kindness, curiosity and working without judgement are central to my approach. Whatever your organisation’s beliefs or background, I’ll listen, ask thoughtful questions and work alongside you to find a way forward.

04 / Experience in practice

Real experience.
Practical value.

Selected examples from my employed roles, which inform the planning, care and follow-through I bring to Grounded Purposeful Projects.

Project planning & delivery

Bringing structure to a complex project

My experience includes leading planning and coordination for the design and development of a £36m head-office refurbishment programme, covering laboratory, warehouse and office facilities.

I brought together senior leaders, technical specialists and external suppliers to coordinate the work.

My contribution

Clear priorities, milestones and decisions across the design and development phase.

Setting up teams and services

Turning an idea into a working service

I established new support teams and services within a professional services firm, including a dedicated operation for a newly acquired legal business.

This involved agreeing what the service would provide, securing funding and people, and putting working processes in place.

The outcome

New services with a clear foundation: agreed scope, resources and service standards.

Process improvement

Making more of a team’s time

I designed and carried out time-and-motion studies to understand how a People Services team used its time and identify opportunities to improve the way work was organised.

I also supported the wider rollout of this approach across Payroll and Quality.

The outcome

A 25% increase in team capacity through practical process improvement.

Every organisation needs clear priorities, workable plans and people pulling in the same direction. My experience has taught me how to bring those elements together, make good use of resources and keep work moving.

I adapt that approach to your organisation’s size, purpose and circumstances, bringing practical structure and support to help you move from intention to action.

A few useful answers

Before we begin.

Is my project too small?

The useful question is what support would make a difference. A clear plan, an independent review or a focused piece of support may be all you need. The scope can be agreed around your project.

Do you only work with churches and charities?

No. Grounded Purposeful Projects also supports small businesses. You don’t need a particular affiliation: what matters is understanding your organisation and the work you want to deliver.

Can you help with a project already underway?

Yes. A project review can clarify where things stand, identify what is holding progress back and set out practical next steps. Ongoing support can then be agreed if it would be useful.

How is the work scoped?

We start with your intended outcome, current position and constraints. Before work begins, we agree the support, deliverables, responsibilities, timescales and fee, so everyone knows what to expect.
